Installation
Installing RESUMate
Single User & Single Location Installation
RESUMate is easy to set up and install on a single PC, or for multiple users over a Local Area Network (LAN). (Note: if your PC shares an internet connection with other PCs, you’ve already got a LAN.)
Single User & Single Location Installation
Remote Access & Remote Desktop Installation
There are several ways to access RESUMate from multiple locations. Which one is best for you will depend on how many users and locations you have.
Remote Access & Remote Desktop Installation
RESUMate In a Mac OS
Like so much business software, RESUMate is a Windows native program. It will not install on a Mac OS and won’t run there. However, lots of people do run RESUMate on a Mac through Windows emulation software.
Please note that we can only provided limited support for RESUMate on a Mac.
RESUMate requires Windows Vista or higher to run. It will work fine on Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1.
For multi-user installations, we recommend wired 100 Mb Ethernet or wireless 802.11n or better. For networks of five or more users, we recommend wired 1 Gb Ethernet.
Database Repair
Database Repair
Repair Tools
RESUMate comes with two utilities to prevent and repair database corruption, “Compact & Repair” and “Repair+”.
Compact & Repair
Compact & Repair is built into RESUMate itself and should be run once per month on small databases (<25,000 records) or once per week on large databases (>25,000 records). It typically takes just a minute or two to complete.
Compact and Repair instructions
Repair+
Repair+ is a separate program that can fix problems Compact & Repair cannot. In general, you only need to run Repair+ if you encounter a problem that Compact & Repair cannot fix.
Error Messages
If you encounter an error message in RESUMate, we’re sorry about that. Please click below for a list of RESUMate error messages and their plain English translations. Simple instructions for how to resolve each item are also included.
RESUMate uses a Microsoft Access database format. Like anything else, Access has advantages and disadvantages.
On the plus side, it is easy to work with, easy to install, and keeps your data in an easy to read format that can be imported into almost any other database. On the down side, information is sometimes improperly or incompletely written back to the database file, which is known as “database corruption”.
Back-up and Data Migration
Back-up and Data Migration
Database Maintenance
All of the data you put into RESUMate is stored on your hardware. We do not have access to your information at all. RESUMate is more secure that way, but it does mean that you need to take responsibility for backing up your data and moving it when you get a new computer.
If you lose your database file, we cannot retrieve it for you. We strongly recommend setting up an automatic backup system. It doesn’t take long, and it can be the difference between a minor nuisance and the loss of weeks, months or more of valuable work.
